Annual construction competition held in Clarksville to teach tools of trades | ClarksvilleNow.com – Clarksville Now

CLARKSVILLE, TN – The 13th annual Northern Mid-TN Construction Competition was held recently at the Wilma Rudolph Event Center.

Students worked together in groups of two and received prizes in sets of two.
Prizes included hand and power tools, hard hats, work gloves, safety glasses and anything else that pertained to the construction industry. Winners of first and second place received enough tools that would make it easy to possibly start their own work or business.

The contest is organized each year by Charles M. Bumpus of Montgomery Central High School, who teaches structural systems for the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System.

“Our sponsors are vital to the success of this annual competition. Clarksville has the best industry supporters around. Local construction companies donate to this event so our industry can have first shot at local employment,” Bumpus said.
“These companies support our programs so when these students graduate, they are career-ready. Another example of the mission of CMCSS,” Bumpus said. “Our students leave our program with OSHA certifications, meaning they are not just skilled in construction activities, but they are safety skilled as well. Our graduates are scattered across our county providing quality, local skilled, high wage employment.”
