Justin Fields will sit out the Chicago Bears’ game against the New York Jets and Nathan Peterman will start at quarterback after backup Trevor Siemian was injured in warmups. Siemian was set to start, but the Bears announced about an hour before kickoff he injured his oblique and would be replaced by Peterman. Siemian will serve as the backup but Peterman is now Chicago’s only healthy active quarterback. Fields is having a productive second NFL season but injured his left non-throwing shoulder last Sunday. The Jets’ Zach Wilson is also inactive for the game after being benched this week in favor of Mike White.
Arizona State has hired Oregon offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham, making the 32-year-old the youngest head football coach in a Power Five conference. A Phoenix native, Dillingham returns to the school he graduated from 10 years ago in hopes of turning around a program that fired Herman Edwards in September after a 1-2 start. Arizona State also is facing an NCAA investigation for alleged violations of recruiting rules committed under Edwards. Dillingham began his coaching career at Chaparral High School in Scottsdale, Arizona, before being hired as an offensive analysis by then-Arizona State coach Todd Graham in 2014.
Cincinnati will be without wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase after the Bengals scratched the reigning AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year for a fourth straight game. Chase returned to practice this week with the hip injury that had kept him out the previous three games. He was limited all week and was listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against Tennessee before being a game-day scratch. The Bengals already declared running back Joe Mixon out. They also will be without punter and holder Kevin Huber. Tennessee will be without center Ben Jones for a second straight game.
Marcus Rashford didn’t think the jeers from England’s fans really were necessary. The 0-0 draw with the United States simply wasn’t good enough. Certainly not for a team with genuine ambitions of winning the World Cup for the first time since its one and only tournament success in 1966. And not for one coming off the high of beating Iran 6-2 in its opening game in Qatar. Rashford says “you don’t need fans to boo us to know we’ve not played as well as we could have.” England is still at the top of Group B and a point against Wales will guarantee qualification.
Canada has won its first Davis Cup tennis title, beating Australia behind victories from Denis Shapovalov and Felix Auger-Aliassime. Auger-Aliassime secured the winning point when he downed Alex De Minaur 6-3, 6-4 after Shapovalov opened the day by rolling past Thanasi Kokkinakis 6-2, 6-4. Shapovalov had dropped both his singles matches this week and needed treatment on his back during a three-set loss Saturday in the semifinals to Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego that lasted 3 hours, 15 minutes. But the left-hander moved quickly around the court Sunday. Then Auger-Aliassime completed his perfect week in Spain.

Indiana women’s basketball coach Teri Moren says she considered not playing Memphis on Saturday night in the Las Vegas Invitational. No paramedics were on site to tend to an injured Auburn player in the preceding game. Auburn freshman Kharyssa Richardson fell hard to the floor with four minutes left against Colorado State and appeared to bang her head. There was a 50-minute wait for EMT personnel to arrive to The Mirage on the Las Vegas Strip. That delayed the Indiana-Memphis games by nearly 90 minutes.

Morocco pulled off another shock at the World Cup by beating Belgium 2-0 and leaving Kevin de Bruyne and the 2018 semifinalists in peril of a group-stage exit. Substitute Abdelhamid Sabiri got one past Belgium goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois with a free kick from a tight angle in the 73rd minute for Morocco’s first goal. Zakaria Aboukhlal then guided a shot into the roof of the net off a pass from Hakim Ziyech in stoppage time. Belgium had won its last seven group games at the World Cup. It was Morocco’s first win at a World Cup since 1998 and only its third ever.
Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou mysteriously disappeared before kickoff of his team’s shocking 2-0 World Cup win over Belgium. Bounou lined up with the Morocco team for the national anthems on Sunday then went to speak to coach Walid Regragui, who embraced him and turned to speak to his reserve keeper. Munir El Kajoui then ran onto the field in time to be included in the pre-match team photo and didn’t allow a goal as Morocco beat second-ranked Belgium. There was no immediate explanation of Bounou’s absence from the Morocco team or match officials at Al Thumama Stadium.
