PODCAST: Lead Exposure in the Construction Industry – Roofing Contractor

Back in July, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) published a notice of proposed rulemaking to revise standards for exposure to lead. While keeping safe on the job is important, OSHA rulemaking means there may be additional guidelines for contractors to follow.
Trent Cotney, partner at Adams and Reese, touches on the rulemaking and the role the National Roofing Contractors Association is playing to try and shape new rules to be construction-friendly.
“In construction you may be exposed to lead, especially in roofing or dealing with building envelope-type construction, there may be lead paint, there may be lead contained within flashing or other items,” he said.
Cotney also discusses the research contractors should do when it comes to determining whether they’re still liable following a job and how their contracts can play a role in mitigating exposure to claims.
